Disability
Disability insurance can keep you financially stable should you become disabled and unable to work. It can help provide a sense of security, knowing that if the unexpected should happen, you’ll still receive a monthly income. If you elect short term disability coverage after your initial eligibility period, you will be required submit an Evidence of Insurability (EOI) form with additional information about your health before the insurance company will approve your coverage.
Short-Term Disability (STD)
- You are eligible to receive STD benefits after you have been disabled for 14 days due to a non-work-related illness or injury.
- Replaces up to 60% of your eligible income, up to a maximum of $1,000 per week.
- Benefits end after 11 weeks or when you no longer disabled, whichever is earlier.
Note: This benefit is available in ALL locations; however, the cost of the benefit will vary based on your operator. The costs illustrated here, are on a voluntary basis with no operator contributions. Please check with your operator or log in to benefitexpress for details.
How to Calculate Your Bi-weekly Costs
- Determine your annual earnings
- Divide your annual earnings by 52 (this will give you your weekly earnings)
- Take your weekly earnings from step 2 above and multiply them by 0.60 (this will give you your weekly STD benefit, however, this amount cannot exceed $1,000)
- Take your weekly benefit (or $1,000 whichever is LESS) and divide that by 10
- Take the amount you calculated in step 4 and multiply that by your corresponding rate in the age table – this will be your bi-weekly/per paycheck cost of coverage
NOTE: this will be calculated for you when you log into your enrollment portal with benefitexpress
